The SBISD Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30pm Monday, August 2nd to “Consult
with the Board's attorney regarding all matters as authorized by law, including pending or contemplated litigation”, according to an agenda posted to the district’s website today.
Notably, this agenda includes an item for the Board to hear public comments on the litigation, which is the only other item on the agenda for that evening. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this meeting, as it may be the only opportunity to address the Board before next steps are taken on the lawsuit.

The board was not prepared to hear public comment on the litigation at their meeting on July 19th, and denied certain speakers the floor on procedural grounds. At that meeting, the Board promised the audience an opportunity to be heard “soon”.
The upcoming August 2nd meeting seems to be that opportunity, as it is being called specifically for the Board to discuss the litigation. Unlike July 19th, no roadblocks exist to deny speakers the floor, and there is no other business before the board on the August 2nd agenda.
Save SBISD is aware of organization efforts by others to turn out speakers that seek to change our election procedures. We expect their argument to be made at this meeting on Monday, August 2nd. A strong rebuttal is essential.
We encourage anyone who is available to attend the meeting and let the board know that you OPPOSE any change to our election procedures, and support a vigorous defense to this lawsuit.
Public comments at board meetings have a strong effect when it comes to swaying opinions of the Board of Trustees. Our voices must be heard, again.
If you went last time, you aren't done helping. Go again this time. Bring your friends. Speak, even if it's just a simple "I strongly oppose this change to our election method!"
Speaking is very easy. Simply show up to the facility before the meeting starts and sign up on the provided form. The board will allow you four minutes to make your statements. You can use as much or as little time as you want. We can't say it enough, it is important that people actually show up and voice their opposition to the lawsuit. Trust us, it matters if folks show up, way more than you may think.
If you are unable to attend, please take the time to email the trustees and let them know you OPPOSE any change to our election procedures. Their contact information is available here.
